    According to a 2012, report on measuring child poverty, 23.1% of children in the United States and 13.3% of children in Canada are living in relative poverty lacking possessions, services and opportunities that most people would consider normal for child growth and development. In 1993, the UN designated October 17 the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and Plan to Protect® is committed to protection and abuse prevention of the vulnerable. Melodie Bissell, President and CEO of Plan to Protect®, will provide an overview of the vulnerabilities individuals living in distress and poverty face and provide practical tips for organizations on how to provide a safe environment. We believe we can all help, in the mission to eradicate poverty by raising awareness of distress and poverty, by protecting those who are currently living in distress and poverty and by working together to prevent abuse, harm and further distress.
